No Man's Sky

No Man’s Sky.  Or is it…  No Man’s Lie?  No Man Buy?

We’ve heard them all.  And while we’ve really looked forward to this amazingly huge game, what we were given was a considerable letdown for some.  What was promised and what was delivered are two vastly different things and that has really fueled a backlash of vitriol from a large portion of the gaming community.

In this episode Sten and Mark delve into the promises from Hello Games and Sean Murray.  They also get into their personal perspectives as each of them had a different level of prior knowledge just before the release of the game.  Sten stayed away from pretty much every rumor that surfaced over the last year while Mark watched the occasional non-spoiler video.  Overall their take is somewhat unique to others who hung upon every word from Sony and Hello Games regarding No Man’s Sky.  At the same time each of them has put dozens of hours into the game as they adventure through the Euclid Galaxy.

No Man's Sky

The discussion eventually evolves into understanding why the community is upset and looking at the game that was delivered on August 9th and comparing that to the list of promises.  There are very solid reasons for the backlash and the guys try to explain why some feel the way they do.

As stated near the beginning of the episode, there are some minor spoilers throughout, so if you haven’t played the game yet and you want to go into it as uninformed as possible, then you may want to avoid this episode.  Otherwise we hope you enjoy our analysis of one of the largest games to release in recent years, both in hype and scope of the actual game.

I had 3 space pirates follow me down into the atmosphere of a planet and continue to fight me. I always thought that going into a planet’s atmosphere would shake them off but it did not. I shot them down in-atmosphere eventually. I know this game has a lot of broken promises but there’s quite a bunch of stuff that actually can be found in the game. I also hear fleets get bigger when you go to green or blue star systems. In general I’ve already found that red, green and blue systems are more interesting than yellow ones. I bet many players haven’t traveled to anything but yellow systems.

No doubt. The more exotic the star system the crazier it seems to be.

I’ve had sentinel ships come at me in atmosphere. I headed for space and they followed me. This was early on and I got trounced.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the game. I understand why there are those who are mad, but the game is still receiving a 6.5 rating across the board because its a very solid experience. Here’s to hoping some of those promises come to pass with patches and DLC’s.
