Lee is the heart and soul of The Bearded and the foundation of why we do what we do in this hobby. He and Mike had been gaming together for quite some time before Mark and Steven joined up with them, and it was Lee who brought gaming to the group… or perhaps the group was brought to gaming.
A jack of so many different trades, it’s hard to keep track of them all. Lee has spent time as a teacher, a youth director, a mobile app store analyst and most recently (and currently) he works with a group that provides underprivileged kids with the motivation, resources and supplies they might need to succeed in school.
Aside from his philanthropy, he’s an avid gamer and disc golfer. Lee has brought numerous titles to the group and podcast that we would never have known about otherwise. Some of the games are “older” while others are out of our “field of vision” so to speak. The list is long but necessary to mention here.
- VivaJava: the Coffee Game
- Neue Heimat
- 2 de Mayo
- Polis: Fight for the Hegemony
- Omen: A Reign of War
- Blue Moon City
- The Road to Canterbury
Lee also has the uncanny ability to teach a game and teach it well. Most of what we do here at I, Geek started with the idea of capturing walk through videos of board games using Lee and his teaching techniques to help people understand the games better. Since those first conversations things have changed a bit but the idea is still floating around out there to have Lee work his magic.
Aside from this Lee is an old school gamer dating back to early Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. Ever the seeker of the obscure, Lee is always on the lookout for something the masses aren’t talking about. He does this by visiting multiple sites, keeping up with the latest news and reading lots of reviews. If it’s obscure with a chance of being good, Lee will snag it up and bring it to the table.
