front of the line

My name is Steven, but everyone calls me Sten.  Since the early 1980’s, I have been actively involved in the world of geekdom.  Here are some humble brags that will prove this point.

  • I own over 20 video games consoles –  Everything from on unopened Pong Console to the newest consoles on the market.
  • In 1990, I was a Semifinalist at the Nintendo World Championship.
  • I have a lovely wife and two children who are also firmly rooted in the world of Geekdom.
  • I own several Holy Grail board games; Fireball Island, Roads & Boats, and an original copy of Aquire.

As far back as I can remember I have always loved games of every type, and I was lucky enough to grow up during the birth of video games.  At the age of 3, I was waking up early in the morning, connecting the Atari 2600 up to our huge 13 inch TV, and playing Pitfall until everyone woke up.

My father also introduced me to a myriad of board games at a young age.  Some of our favorite games growing up were Fireball Island and Screaming Eagles, and I still treasure those games to this day.

As an Adult…

My hobbies have moved beyond Mario and Monopoly.  Several years ago, Mike and Lee introduced me to Puerto Rico and thus set me on my current path.  I am now fully immersed into the world of designer board games, having accumulated several hundred board games in my own collection.

I have since attended several board game conventions, designed and shared my own board game with publishers, and continue to meet new people who have a passion for this hobby. Now I have a chance to share my knowledge and passion with others through the I, Geek Podcast, and this makes me very excited.

As the Youngest Bearded…

Although I am several years younger than most of The Bearded,  I do have the oldest children in the group.  My wife and children are the most important things in my life, and I am thankful everyday that they love me for who I am and what I love to do.

As the youngest, I feel everyone has turned to me to be the tech guy of the group.  Putting this website together has been a challenge, but I am treating it like learning a new complicated game.  I am not sure if it will ever be done to my satisfaction, but I have enjoyed the journey so far.

Other Crazy Stuff…

I’m a doer. It’s what sets me apart from most people. I have always felt that It’s one thing to talk about it. Or write about it. It’s another thing to actually do it.

That being said I am kind of a hobby whore.  Yes I love everything geek, but my hobbies extend well beyond games.  In recent years I have taken up marksmanship, knitting, carpentry, gourmet cooking, and cricket (yes, the sport).  I love learning new things and this podcast & website have been no exception.

And This is How I End My Bio…

Hopefully you made it this far. And, hopefully, you can see how committed I am to the growth of the geek community.

You can help spread the message. We will continue to create new content and would love to share it with as many people as we can.  We would also love to hear from you, so please send us a message letting us know how we are doing.

     Thanks again for stopping by.
